Read Alouds for the Whole Family

By FPL_Yvette

A family that reads together grows together.

Think back to when you were a child. Do you remember being in bed at night and your parent or a family member reading a book out loud to you? Feels pretty good, huh?

When our children are very young, we read them bedtime stories, but why do we stop as they get older?

Why read aloud to your children:

  • Instills a love of reading – when they see how enjoyable reading can be they are more likely to become lifelong readers.
  • Builds empathy – hearing stories from different point of views can help them to understand and feel for others.
  • Expands vocabulary – reading chapter books introduces new words to them. Even if it’s a big word define it for them in a way they can understand.

Here are some great read-alouds from our digital library. Happy reading!
