Election Time in Frisco: May 6!

By FPL_Gabriella

The next City of Frisco General Election will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 to elect a Mayor and members for City Council Place 5, and City Council Place 6. This is your chance to make your voice heard in your local government! In this blog post, we will go over when you can vote, how to find your polling location, and voter identification requirements in the state of Texas.

When can I vote?

Early voting begins on April 24, 2023 and ends on May 2, 2023. Election day is May 6, 2023.

Where is my polling location?

Counties are in control of many of the rules regarding voting in Texas. Since Frisco is in both Collin and Denton counties, you might have different rules on how and where to vote based on your residency.

Collin County

Collin County residents registered to vote in Collin County can vote at any polling location in the county.

Denton County

Denton County is different than Collin County when it comes to voting. During the early voting period, voters registered in Denton County can vote at any polling location within the county. On election day, you must vote at your assigned polling location. The links below provide more information.

What forms of identification will I need to vote?

Texas state law requires that voters show a form of identification when they go to vote. The Texas Secretary of State lists seven forms of identification as acceptable to present to polling staff to vote. Those seven forms of identification are:

  • Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
  • Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
  • United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph
  • United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
  • United States Passport (book or card)

Expired documents may be used but the regulations vary based on age. If you are aged 18-69, you may use a document that is expired by no more than four years. If you are 70 years or older, you may use any expired document that is otherwise valid. If you are unable to provide one of these documents or want greater clarification, visit Identification Requirements for Voting, opens a new window to learn more.

The next municipal election for the City of Frisco is on May 6, 2023.
