This Summer is Lit(erary)!

If you’re looking to level up your summer reading, love participating in readathons, or just love a good challenge then look no further! We’ve put together 29 reading challenges to make your summer that much more fun. (Fun Fact: The library was founded 29 years ago.) Earn unique badges for completing reading prompts including the Townie and Archivist badge.

To help inspire you, check out staff-created reading lists online. Look for the tag “Summer Reading” for lists related to our challenges. If you've read anything on the list below then you've already earned badges, sign up for the Mayor's Summer Reading Challenge and claim them today!

    1. About or set in Frisco or Texas.
    2. Published in 1991, the year Frisco Public Library was founded.
    3. With “intellect,” “curiosity,” or “imagination” in the title. (Or a variant of one of the key words: intellectual, curious, imagine, etc.)
    4. With a great first line.
    5. From your to-reads list.
    6. An “own voices” book. (Books about diverse characters written by authors from that same diverse group.)
    7. Takes place during summer.
    8. About or takes place in a library or bookstore.
    9. Written by a local author.
    10. A graphic novel or manga.
    11. Read by one of the library’s book clubs or from the Library’s Book Club Collection.
    12. With an unreliable narrator or alternatively a book told from a nonhuman perspective.
    13. A book that’s been adapted into a movie or TV series
    14. Read a book from a genre you don’t normally read.
    15. Read a book recommended on FPL's website.
    16. A translated book.
    17. A classic you pretended to read in school.
    18. A book that you borrowed from the library or was given to you as a gift.
    19. A book mentioned in another book or that you saw being read on a TV show or movie.
    20. A microhistory.
    21. Judge a book by its cover. Pick a book entirely based on how the cover looks.

    23. A book written by someone who is not an author by profession.
    24. Involving a cattle drive or settlers in the American West.

    26. A book involving a train, railway, or subway.
    27. A book whose title begins with the letter “F” or has exactly 6 letters
    28. About a hobby you would like to try.
    29. Biography or memoir of a person in a STEM field. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
