Heritage months are a time to celebrate a specific culture or community and encourage people to learn about others and their rich history and contributions to society.
Awareness months are a way to educate people about social issues or injustices, diseases or disorders, and history.
Sharing these powerful stories not only enables us to understand those around us, but it also brings communities together. Let's explore some of the April Awareness and Heritage Months in 2024.
Scottish American Month
Scottish American Heritage Month in April focuses on Scottish culture and honors Scottish Americans who have made significant contributions to U.S. society. The influence of Scottish ancestry is deeply woven into the fabric of America. Many of the founding fathers of our country were Scottish ancestors. The people of Scotland continue to enrich our American culture today. Nearly 30 million U.S. citizens have Scottish or Scottish Irish heritage.

National Arab American Month
April is National Arab American Heritage Month. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the 22 Arab nations in the world, located from Northern Africa through Western Asia. Over 1.7 billion Americans trace their ancestry to one or more of the countries that make up the Arab world. It is a time to celebrate the culture, traditions, accomplishments, and contributions of the diverse population of Arab Americans.

Autism Awareness Month
April is designated as National Autism Awareness Month to raise awareness about autism. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects one out of every 60 children in the U.S.
