Singing is Not Just for the Shower!

By FPL_Suzanne

It doesn’t matter if your voice is not star-quality!  Singing to and with your children can be a great way to bond and get to know each other better, especially when you need a break from all the stress of the day.  Here are some ways you can incorporate singing throughout your day:

  • Watch one of our Story Times on Facebook. Our story timers love to sing! ?
  • Sing a book! Rhyming books are easier to put a tune to.  Check these “musical” books out that we have in our collection:

If You're Happy and You Know It! by Jane Cabrera

There Was A Tree by Rachel Isadora - to the tune of “Green Grass Grows All Around”

The Croaky Pokey! by Ethan Long

Moo, Moo, Brown Cow, Have You Any Milk? by Phillis Gershator

Ten in the Den by John Butler

  • Play background music while working on a craft project together, cleaning up from playing, or while eating a meal.
  • Get out your musical instruments or create them out of things you have at home. Drum along to your favorite song (use plastic containers instead of pots ?), put on your child’s favorite music CD and dance or keep the beat with homemade egg shakers.

For more “Sing” activities, check out the Sing With Me Badge in our Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge program and have fun together!
