The Frisco Public Library is hosting its very first Renaissance Faire on November 22! While this is super exciting, we'd also love to encourage our attendees to dress up.
Below are tips and tricks for getting a costume together out of things you may already have.
How to dress up at a Renaissance Faire in three easy steps:
- Think layers. While you absolutely can come in a time-accurate costume, most people don’t have the kind of time—or let’s be real, money—to pull something like that off. Instead, layer as many shirts, belts, and pieces of jewelry as you can. Maybe a belt that’s been sitting in the back of your drawer would look perfect over a white dress shirt. If you think you have enough layers, add one more! It really brings the costume together.
 - Being subtle is still dressing up. You can always wear regular clothes and add a fantasy twist. Maybe you have an old wizard hat lying around from a past Halloween. Or, if you aren’t feeling that, maybe some elf ears could do the trick. It doesn’t have to be loud to be dressing up.
 - Craft whatever else you need. You’d be amazed at how many things you can make—and how many tutorials are out there. A lot of people craft parts, if not all, of their costumes for Renaissance Faires, so you can find projects based on difficulty or aesthetic. Grab some friends and have a craft day!

Dressing up can be fun for everyone. While it’s not required to dress up for a Renaissance Faire, it can add a little magic and whimsy to your experience. Try it out!
