Book Pick: A Deadly Education

Author: Naomi Novik

Staff Name: Samantha

Job Title: Library Assistant

This book is like a darker Harry Potter. There is an awesome combination of cool magic-wielding students and a school designed to test you at every turn and to weed out the weak or unprepared, all without any sort of teacher or adult figure in sight.

Synopsis:

A Deadly Education is a dark and thrilling fantasy novel set in the Scholomance, a magical school where survival is paramount. The story follows Galadriel "El" Higgins, a powerful but cynical mage with a dark legacy. In the Scholomance, students must constantly fend off deadly creatures and navigate treacherous magical challenges while vying for survival. El, determined to defy her destiny and break free from her heritage, forms unlikely alliances, and confronts the darkness within herself as she strives to emerge victorious in a world where failure is not an option.
