Animal Crossing is a highly popular life and social simulation game where players can create and live on their very own island. While many may know how entertaining and adorable the game can be, one might be surprised to learn of the various lessons and skills that playing Animal Crossing can help a young player learn and enhance.
Creativity
Players can express their creativity through designing custom clothes for their character's wardrobe, decorating and remodeling their island home, and crafting a unique layout and theme for their island.
Critical Thinking
When designing their island layout, players must use critical thinking to determine where and how to place buildings, houses, and decorations, ensuring that they account for the right spacing and placement of their island features.
Financial Literacy
In order to purchase fun items and add new features to their island, players must earn and save up bells through selling items, even having access to their own Nook Bank and savings account.
Scientific Discovery
Activities like fishing, bug catching, and digging for fossils allow players to discover and study a diverse array of island critters and display them proudly in their very own museum.
Social and Emotional Development
Each Animal Crossing island is home to an eclectic array of villagers, each with their own unique name, hobby, and personality type. Interacting with villagers with different personalities, emotions, and interests can lead to improvement and understanding in areas of socialization and emotional awareness.
To see who you might encounter on your future home, check out this list of some of Frisco Library staff's favorite island neighbors.
My personal favorite villager is Kyle. I'm a big fan of his rockstar aesthetic and smug, gentlemanly attitude. I always enjoy hearing his many eccentric catchphrases and nicknames.

Lauren's favorite villager is Kid Cat. He was one of her very first island neighbors. She admires his positive attitude and commitment to safety. (Peep the helmet!)

Libby's favorite villager is Cesar. She loves his grumpy personality and thinks he has a great house.

Charlie's favorite villager is Kiki. She has a great sense of style and is always eager to chat.

Sabrina's favorite villager is Lucky. He has a love for snacks, is super silly, and easy to get along with, even if he is a bit forgetful and clumsy. (Hence all those bandages!)

Calyn's favorite villager is Phil. He's been a sweetheart since the day he moved in and even escorted her to a surprise birthday party once.

Jess' favorite villager is Deena. She finds all of the duck villagers super cute but especially appreciates Deena's love for reading and always enjoys chatting with her about books.

Marie's favorite villager is Melba. She finds Melba's design adorable and loves how she always spots her reading and tending to the island's flowers.
