The Libby app just got an upgrade with a new feature called Content Controls. This optional feature allows users to set the type of content that appears for themselves or for their family, based on the intended audience for individual books, audiobooks, and magazines. You can find this new feature under settings in the Libby app.
In addition to custom controls, there are three presets users can select in settings: Libby for Everyone, Libby for Kids, and Libby for Grown-ups.
Libby for Everyone works just like it has previously, with no restrictions to audience. This is the default setting and users are able to apply custom settings to how titles are displayed in the Libby app including retracting cover images.
Libby for Kids shows only titles that are intended for juvenile and young adult audiences. Libby defines the juvenile audience as 0-12 years old and the young adult audience as 13-18 years old. Users also have the ability to apply deep-search, sample, and circulation restrictions to young adult titles in this setting as well. In this view, any material meant for adults will not show up when they browse the collection.
Libby for Grown-ups is kind of the reverse of Libby for Kids. This content control is meant for adults who do not want Juvenile and Young Adult titles showing up as they browse and search for materials. Since Young Adult books can be popular with adults, users do have the ability to enable Young Adult titles in this setting and just leave out Juvenile titles.
Another cool feature for these settings is the ability to lock content controls with a passkey. This ensures that the content control settings you select are secure until you want to change them. This is an excellent tool for parents who want to be more involved with their child's reading and for people who value their privacy.
