Everything You Need to Know About Holds

By FPL_AmyG

Placing holds on materials is a convenient way to browse for books at the library. You can search for materials online and place holds on materials you’re interested in. Once the items have been pulled from the shelves and are available for pickup, you will receive a notification from the library.

Simple enough, but did you know that you can choose different locations to pick up your holds and that you can suspend your holds when going on vacation?

When placing holds, you can choose between the following locations:

  • Frisco Main Library – 8000 Dallas Pkwy
  • Athletic Center – 5828 Nancy Jane Ln
  • Connection Book Locker – 2615 Preston Rd (Stonebriar Centre)
  • Drive-thru Window – 8000 Dallas Pkwy (located in the drive-thru behind the library)

The first time you log in to your account and try to place a hold, an additional step will pop-up after selecting the Place Hold button. This second step allows you to change your pickup location and enable single-click holds. If you’re someone who mostly picks up holds at one location, enabling single-click holds, will remove this step, and automatically remember the location you selected.

You can also select a library location as your main pickup location in your Account Preferences located under My Settings. And you can enable or disable single click holds here as well.

Going on vacation and worried your hold might come in? No worries, you can pause your hold so that you keep moving up the line (or if you’re first in line, maintain that position). Just select the Pause hold button and select your dates.

This allows hold items to move to the next person in line. The paused hold becomes active again on the day you select. You can manage your holds from the On Hold section located under My Borrowing.

You can resume your paused hold or change the time you want the hold to be paused. Just select the date link to edit the time and click the Resume hold button to make your hold active again.
