Spotify Wrapped is one of my favorite things about winter. Looking back and seeing what I listened to over the year and seeing what friends have been listening to is always a delight - especially since I learned most people had a Chappell Roan year. This year I also learned about the Airbuds app. It's an app where you can see and react to what your friends are listening to in real time. I've been introduced to a lot of great music through the app!
Without further ado, here (and hear) is some insight into the musical and podcasting tastes of Frisco Library staff.
My Spotify Wrapped looked a little different this year than it has in years past. My number of minutes listened was down (it was still 86,575 though) and Arctic Monkeys had dropped from my number one artist for the first time in years. My top 5 artists were Noah Kahan, Chappell Roan, Arctic Monkeys, Hozier, Jung Kook (I had a K-pop moment for a few months) and my top podcast was How Did This Get Made.
My #1 song for 2024 was Northern Attitude by Noah Kahan featuring Hozier.
Dana's top 5 artists looked pretty similar to her 2023 wrapped. Her 45,740 minutes consisted of The Beatles, Jason Mraz, Queen, Imagine Dragons, and The Alan Parsons Project, with Don't Stop Me Now by Queen coming in as her #2 song for the year.
Amy came in strong with her BTS support with RM, BTS, Jimin, and Agust D being her top 4 artists. Smeraldo Garden Marching Band came out as her top song for the year.
Ashley was for the girls this year. Her 28,174 minutes went to Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Olivia Rodrigo. She may have been a girls' girl, but Rich Girl by Hall and Oates came in as her #1 song. She also listened to the comedy podcast Dungeons and Daddies - a podcast about four dads playing Dungeons and Dragons.
John was a recent Spotify convert because he wanted music to play for his cats when he and his wife weren't home. Lofi Girl came in as his (and his cats') #1 artist.
Charlie was surprised that Noah Kahan wasn't in her top 5, but she said it does make sense that Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Olivia Rodrigo, Suki Waterhouse, and Tyler the Creator were her most played artists. She listened to Moves by Suki Waterhouse 62 times this year. That's probably why it came out as her top song.
Per usual, Fall Out Boy came out as Marie's #1 artist with Hold Me Like a Grudge coming in as her top song. Her #1 podcast was True Crime Obsessed (even though she vowed to cut down on her true crime intake).
Marissa also had a Chappell Roan year. Four out of her top five songs were by Chappell. She said she eventually bought the album on CD because she was listening to it so frequently! Her #1 podcast for the year was The Magnus Archives.
