Get the Most Out of OverDrive

By FPL_David

By now, many of you have read and re-read the backs of your cereal boxes, the instruction manual that came with your Instant Pot, and the directions (finally) for that Ikea desk you built. (Oh, so that is where the extra washers were supposed to go…)

Now is the time to take the eBook plunge.  Or, if you are already an eBook reader, to up your game in finding your next great read.

I have some tips below for how to make the best of your OverDrive reading experience.  There are many more and we encourage you to share yours with all of us in the comments!

  1. You can check out 10 books at a time. Perhaps you don’t need this many since titles return automatically after two weeks.  I would counsel against checking out Moby Dick, War and Peace, and Pillars of the Earth on the same day.  But hey, you do you.

  1. Return books early! If you are finished or not going to get to that 87th James Patterson book, go into your account and return it early.  Someone will be waiting for it and it is the right thing to do. Seriously, there is someone waiting for the 87th Patterson book. (Bonus: now you can download another title – see tip 1.)

  1. Feel free to explore. Nobody sees what you check out.  If you don’t like it, you can always just return it.  No harm, no foul.  Look outside your normal reading. If you like science fiction, try a biography.  If you read mysteries non-stop, maybe opt for a gardening book.
