Looking to take your pumpkin carving to the next level, but perhaps not so interested in mastering difficult carving techniques? You may be interested in using silhouette stencils. One of my favorites is Luis Linares’ Tinker Bell Pixie Dust pumpkin. Luis uses a thumbtack method of transferring the outline of the stencil to the pumpkin. This involves holding a paper printout of the silhouette (scaled to fit your pumpkin) up to the pumpkin and then pushing a thumbtack repeatedly along the outline of the silhouette so that it goes through the paper and pierces the pumpkin. This creates a dotted line on the surface of the pumpkin. This outline allows you to use a variety of small cutting tools to carve out the silhouette.
Next Luis adds the magic of the pixie dust with a drill outfitted with 1/16 and 1/18 bits to create all the tiny holes for the dust. Place an LED light inside the pumpkin and you are ready to be the envy of all your neighbors!
