"Hoa hoa hoa..." You better hold on tight, spider monkey!
With the air getting a little cooler and the skies a little cloudier, it seems that peak Twilight season is upon us. What better way to welcome in the fall vibes than paying a visit to Forks, Washington. Whether you're a new visitor or a returning traveler, it's never too late to join the Cullen's vampire clan, run alongside the Quileute wolf tribe, or take council with the menacing Volturi. Decide once and for all if you're Team Edward, Team Jacob, or Team Maybe-Bella-Should-Just-Get-Some-Alone-Time. Twilight's scenic Pacific Northwest setting, grey and blue toned aesthetics, supernatural lore, and one of a kind soundtrack make it the perfect way to embrace the autumn gloom.
Since Twilight first hit shelves back in 2005, the teen vampire romance saga has become a massive cultural phenomenon, resulting in eight books, five movies, a graphic novel series, a couple of parody films, and an infinite number of references and online memes. It's hard to imagine that all of this emerged from one strange dream, but the idea that spawned the viral saga came to author Stephanie Meyer in the middle of a random night, opens a new window. She dreamt of an average girl and a strange, sparkling young man together in a meadow, discussing the dilemma of their love and the young man's vampiric appetites. Meyer was so moved by this dream that she immediately went to her computer to put it in writing, beginning the story that would eventually result in such iconic lines as "It's the fluorescents" and "You nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness monster?!"
Over the years, Twilight has certainly accumulated an extensive (and often divisive) fanbase. Whether your love for the franchise is completely genuine or a little ironic, you surely have a favorite character within the saga's eclectic ensemble. Here at the library, our staff has our own list of Twilight favorites.
Many of our staff—including Amanda, Charlie, and Skye—are partial to Bella's protective police chief dad, Charlie Swan.
Both Kalen and Sabrina are fans of Edward's stylish, psychic sister, Alice Cullen.
Lauren loves sweet and optimistic wolfpack member, Seth Clearwater.
Paulina appreciates Edward's buff and comedic brother Emmett Cullen and his love for a bag of boiled eggs.
I'm partial to Edward Cullen himself, mainly for his dry and awkward wit and peculiar nature.
To kick off Twilight season, try starting with a read-through of the original series:

Dig even deeper with the spin-offs:

Mix things up with a graphic novel version:
Finish things out with a film adaptation or two:

If you still haven't quite gotten your Twilight fix, maybe try taking an actual trip to Forks (like I did)!
