When Life Gives You Lemons

By FPL_Staff

Are you a fan of this tart yellow fruit? If so, you contribute to the 1000 metric tons of lemons consumed every year in the US! A part of the Rutaceae family of flowering plants, lemon trees can live up to 150 years. While the origin of lemons is largely unknown, they are thought to originally come from India.

Lemons are one of the most versatile ingredients in cooking and baking. Lemon-rosemary chicken, lemon pepper fish and lemon pasta are a few savory examples. Lemon meringue pie, lemon tarts, and lemon cake are popular baked dishes.

If you want to meet up with other lemon lovers, there are annual lemon festivals in Goleta, California; Menton, France; and Cinque Terre, Italy.
