This social story covers many areas of the Frisco Public Library. Social stories can help you prepare for a visit to a new place using short steps. This story will include what you might experience and what the behavior expectations are for each scenario. Let's go!

Today I am visiting the Frisco Public Library.

After I park, I will walk through the double doors.

After I walk through the doors, I will enter the lobby. There are bright lights on the floor.

When I walk past the lobby, I will enter the main floor. Wow, the library has 2 floors! I will use walking feet and stay with my grown-up.

The first part of the library has books for grown-ups. This area has computers and tables to sit and read.

There are also Study Rooms people can use. You have to be 14 years or older to reserve online, opens a new window.

In the library, I will see a very big dinosaur skeleton named Rexy. I may be excited when I first see her, but I will not climb or jump on Rexy.

There are desks where I can ask a librarian for help. I will wait for my turn to ask a question.

The youth section is an area for children and their families. Here, I can find picture books, chapter books, and more to read.

There are lots of places where I can sit! I can choose the seat that is most comfortable for me.

Kids can use these computers to play learning games or do their schoolwork. When I use a computer, I will use gentle hands on the keyboard and mouse.

The Pond is where babies & toddlers can explore books and move safely with their grown-ups. If I am not a baby or toddler, I will use calm and gentle movements in this area.

Tot’s Town and Kid’s Club, opens a new window is the library’s active learning space. I must have an adult with me to go inside. It may be loud and busy. If I need to take a break, I can leave with my adult at any time.

Tot’s Town is for children ages 5 and under. I will not run or climb on the play structures.

Kid’s Club is for children ages 6–12. I will not climb over the play structures. I will use the space safely.

Next to Tot’s Town, there is a quiet space called the Comfort Room where I can go with my adult if I need a break to calm my body.

At story time, opens a new window, I can enjoy stories, sing songs, and do fun dances! I pick up my story time ticket at the youth desk.

In the Storytime Room, I will find a place to sit. I will not run, and I will stay next to my grown-up. Sometimes, it can be loud in here, but I can step out to calm my body and come back when I’m ready.
Sometimes the class will be full, so there will be no tickets left. I will need to come back for story time another day.

The library has a second floor! I can use the stairs to get there. I will not run or jump on the stairs.

There are also stairs in the lobby and an elevator that leads to the second floor.

When I go to the second floor, I will see the Teen Area.

There are computers on this floor that teens and adults can use for games, projects, or looking up information.

The Makerspace, opens a new window is a high-tech space where guests can make different things. You have to be 18 years or older to reserve online.

There is also a Quiet Reading Room on the second floor where people can go to read and study. If I go into the quiet space, I will use a quiet voice so I do not disturb others.

On the second floor, there is a Terrace where I can go outside. When I am on the Terrace, I will use walking feet and stay with my adult.

When I am ready to leave, I can choose books to take home. To borrow books, I will use my library card at a check-out station.

When I am finished with my books, I will return them on time and place them in the return slot in the Lobby or the drive-thru.

It is time to go now, but I can come back to the library another day!
