It makes sense that July is National Ice Cream Month and was declared so 37 years ago by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. What you may find even more interesting is that forms of ice cream have been around for millenia, all the way back to 618-97AD China.
National Ice Cream Day falls on the third Sunday of July, July 18th for 2021, and a fun way to celebrate is to make this "Ice Cream in a Bag" recipe at home!
Ice Cream in a Bag, opens a new window
Serves 1 Person
Ingredients:
1 C half-and-half
2 Tbsp granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
3 C ice
1/3 C kosher salt
Toppings of your choice
Directions:
-
- In a small resealable plastic bag, combine half-and-half, sugar, and vanilla. Push out excess air and seal.
- Into a large resealable plastic bag, combine ice and salt. Place the small bag inside the bigger bag and shake vigorously, 7 to 10 minutes, until ice cream has hardened.
- Remove the small bag from the large bag and enjoy with your favorite ice cream toppings.
