Make 2026 a Year of Impact: Volunteer at the Library
As you map out your New Year’s resolutions, consider adding something deeply meaningful: volunteering at your public library. It’s a chance to give back, gain new skills, and become part of a community that fuels learning, discovery, and connection.
Why Volunteer at the Library?
- Share your talents & develop new skills. Volunteering isn’t just about helping others — you’ll learn organization, communication, event planning, customer service, and more.
- Be part of the community. Libraries are community hubs. When you volunteer, you strengthen connections and help make the library a more welcoming place for everyone.
- Small time commitment, big difference. Even a few hours a week or month can help keep library services running smoothly.
Who Can Volunteer?
- Frisco Library’s volunteer program is open to adults 18 and older (excluding high school students).
- Note: the library does not accept court‑appointed community service volunteers.
- Applicants should be active, motivated, and interested in contributing.
Types of Volunteer Opportunities
Here are some volunteer roles at FPL:
- Circulation Sidekick — Help with sorting and organizing books
- Tidy Up Team — Keep spaces neat by aligning and straightening shelved books, and placing stray and discarded books on reshelve carts
- Special Events — Assist during library events, story times, programs, or community gatherings
- Check‑out Assistant — Greet visitors, provide directions, help with self-checkout, and help find books on hold
- ESL Support — Aid in English as a Second Language programs (helping learners with English grammar, vocabulary, or pronunciation, or providing conversation support).
How to Get Started
- Apply Online — Frisco uses an online volunteer platform (My Impact) to receive applications. Click here, opens a new window to get started.
- Background Check — A background check is required for volunteers as part of the library’s commitment to safety.
- Search Shifts & Log Hours — Once approved, volunteers can view available shifts and log hours through the volunteer portal.
Resolving to Volunteer in 2026 — How to Make It Stick
- Set a manageable goal. Commit to an hour or two per week or a set number of events per year.
- Pick something you enjoy. If events energize you, sign up for special events. If organizing is your strength, circulation or tidying roles may feel more rewarding.
- Stay flexible and communicative. Life happens — if you need to shift hours or take a break, log into your My Impact account to make adjustments, or contact us at adultvolunteers@friscotexas.gov, opens a new window
- Track your impact. Keep a log for yourself of the hours you’ve volunteered or the number of people you’ve helped so you see the real difference you’re making.
If you're looking to turn one of your New Year’s resolutions into something concrete, volunteering at the library is a wonderful choice. You’ll help uplift your community, sharpen your skills, and be part of something bigger.
