You may have heard of a new subgenre pop up recently called Cozy Fantasy. But what is it? And what made it so popular?
Cozy fantasy is similar to other cozy genres like cozy mystery for example. One of the things these books tend to share is that they are low on violence and high on heart. They just feel a bit like the book is giving you a warm hug.
This isn’t to say that these types of books are boring. Some can be quite thrilling and adventurous. But they won’t have the long descriptions of gore and violence. Sometimes the world in general can be tough, so cozy fantasy is yet another way we can take a few moments to escape.
In regard to what made cozy fantasy so popular, we can thank Travis Baldree! The release of his book Legends and Lattes created a frenzy of people realizing that cozy books don’t have to just be in mystery or romance.
