Find More Time to Read

By FPL_JessicaH

I don’t know about you, but the older I get the harder it is to find time to read. Between responsibilities and work, reading tends to get put to the side. But there is hope! Here are some practical tips on how to find more time to read as an adult.

  • Pick small amounts of time throughout your day. You don’t always have to invest a lot of time to make some major progress in your book. Reading doesn’t have to be a time investment. Try waking up fifteen minutes earlier, reading right before bed, or reading on your lunch break. Sneaking these small moments of time in can make a huge difference in your reading life.
  • Try reading in a different format. If you’re trying to read more, try listening to an audiobook. This makes it so convenient to get more time with your book where you don’t have to sit still. You could also try reading on an app. You’d be surprised how many minutes you can sneak in while standing in line at the grocery store or even waiting for your food at a restaurant.
  • Stop reading books you aren’t enjoying. I find that if I’m trying to power through a book that I’m not enjoying, it makes me not want to read as much. Reading is supposed to be fun so don’t force yourself to read something you aren’t enjoying.

Reading as an adult can bring so much enrichment into your life. But it is something that can be hard to prioritize. As an adult, reading doesn’t have to be a chore, it’s supposed to be fun and enriching. Finding the time to read may be easier than you think!

Did you know the library has a Silent Book Club, opens a new window? It’s a new kind of book club where everyone brings their own book and reads quietly together for one hour a month. This is a great way to carve out time to read.
