Native American Heritage Month

November marks Native American Heritage Month, a time dedicated to honoring the rich history, culture, and contributions of Indigenous peoples in the United States. At Frisco Public Library, we’re proud to celebrate this important month with a variety of resources and opportunities for learning and reflection.

What is Native American Heritage Month?

Native American Heritage Month was officially designated in 1990, following decades of efforts by Indigenous advocates and allies to recognize the history and contributions of Native communities. It's a time to acknowledge the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories of Native Americans and to celebrate the countless ways they have shaped and enriched this country.

Celebrating Indigenous Culture and History

From the first indigenous people who inhabited the land for thousands of years to present-day communities, Native Americans have played an essential role in shaping our shared history. This month allows us to reflect on their resilience, creativity, and the ongoing challenges they face.

At the library, we are excited to showcase a wide range of materials that highlight the stories, voices, and perspectives of Indigenous peoples. Here are some titles to help you engage with Native American Heritage Month at our library:
