Where, When, and What You Need to Vote in 2024

By FPL_SamU

Is this your first time voting? Are you new to Frisco and aren’t sure where to vote? Not a problem! In this blog we’ll cover how to register to vote, when you can vote, how to find your polling location, and voter identification requirements in the state of Texas.

How do I register to vote?

To register to vote in the State of Texas, you must fill out a voter registration application and mail the application to your county’s voter registrar 30 days before the election.

**The last day to register to vote is Monday, October 7, 2024 for the November 5 election.**

If you are not sure if you are already registered you can check on this website: Vote Texas: Register to vote., opens a new window

Where do I get an application?

If you still need to register, there are multiple ways to do so. Here at Frisco Public Library, you can pick up a voter registration form from any of the staff desks in the library.

The Texas Secretary of State also offers an online informal form where you can fill out the form online and print the filled-out form to mail to your county’s voter registrar. That form can be found using this link: Texas Secretary of State: Voter Registration Applications., opens a new window

Remember, the form must be mailed to your county’s voter registrar for the application to be processed. The mailing address for your county’s voter registrar will be listed on the completed form.

Can I vote by mail?

Information on voting by mail can be found on the Texas Secretary of State’s website: Texas Secretary of State: Vote by Mail, opens a new window

Where is my polling location?

In the State of Texas, counties control many of the rules and regulations of elections, including where you will vote. Frisco is in both Collin County and Denton County. Collin County and Denton County have different rules on where you will vote. This means where you can vote will vary depending on where you live in the City of Frisco but don't worry, we cover that below.

Collin County

The Collin County voter registrar states that it uses “Vote Centers”, meaning that Collin County residents registered to vote in Collin County can vote at any polling location in the county. The links below provide a list of polling centers in the county:

Denton County

Denton County is a little bit different than Collin County when it comes to voting. During the early voting period, voters registered in Denton County can vote at any polling location within the county. On election day, you must vote at your assigned polling location. Click  Vote Denton: Voter Lookup, opens a new window to look yourself up in the database to see what your precinct number is and where your assigned polling location is for election day.

At the time of this blog posting, Denton County does not have their website fully updated for the November 5 elections. However, once updated you can find polling location information from the link below:

Once updated, on their website you’ll be able to access:

      • A link to a list of early voting locations, dates, and times.
      • A link that provides all election day voting locations in the county and the precincts that are assigned to them.

What forms of identification will I need to vote?

Texas state law requires that voters show a form of identification when they go to vote. The Texas Secretary of State lists seven forms of identification as acceptable to present to polling staff to vote. Those seven forms of identification are:

    • Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
    • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
    • Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
    • Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
    • United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph
    • United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
    • United States Passport (book or card)

Expired documents may be used but the regulations vary based on age. If you are aged 18-69, you may use a document that is expired by no more than four years. If you are 70 years or older, you may use any expired document that is otherwise valid. If you are unable to provide one of these documents or want greater clarification, visit Vote Texas: Register to Vote, ID Requirements, opens a new window to learn more.
