Reading by Mood

All readers are different. This may seem obvious to some, but it’s good to remember that no one reads quite the same. There are almost as many types of readers as there are genres. That's a lot of readers!

I am a mood reader, which means what I enjoy reading depends entirely on my mood. While this can be great fun, it can also be a bit difficult to figure out what mood I’m in. Most of the time, I’m in the mood for fantasy books, but one of the weird things I’ve noticed is that I want to read fantasy books set during the season I’m currently in.

While this might seem like a no-brainer, I’ve actually had some difficulty finding fantasy books set in spring or summer. Most fantasy books tend to take place where it’s cold, which is amazing but not always what I’m in the mood for.

So, you see my problem. Is it silly? Yes. But it also is just the way I enjoy reading.

Something I found out that was interesting is that not every mood reader is the same. Some mood readers prefer to read by an emotion. They want books that make them happy or make them sad in that particular moment. There are also mood readers who read based on genre. Maybe they’re in the mood for a fantasy or maybe a non-fiction. Maybe they've read too many fantasy books and want to read a thriller instead.

There are so many different types of moods for different types of readers!

What kind of reader are you? Here are some books about the silliness of the reading life.
