We are lucky to have a large selection of cultural institutions here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Although things are re-opening here in Texas, there may be limited hours or maybe you still don’t feel safe leaving the house just quite yet. No need to fear! That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy our local museums and art galleries. Google has developed Google Arts and Culture, a non-profit initiative by the company to digitally preserve culture and make accessible to people around the world. Keep reading to learn about what Google Arts and Culture offers locally.
Dallas-Fort Worth Institutions
Seven museums in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area have partnered with Google Arts and Culture to provide a variety of online experiences. These experiences will vary from museum to museum. Google Arts and Culture has broken what is available online into four different categories: stories, collections, items, and museum view. Stories are usually a collection of works that are related in some way and have information about the various works and how they relate to each other, like a story. Collections are items that have been grouped together in some way to make an easy browsing experience. Items are exhibits that the museum has put online. Museum views are creating using Google Street view where you can explore a museum and walk around virtually as if you were actually there. It’s important to note that it’s most likely not everything is online, but you can still get a good sense as to what a museum has to offer.
