National Be Kind to Animals Week

By FPL_LeeL

National Be Kind to Animals Week is May 5-11, 2024.

The week is designed to raise awareness about animal welfare and encourage people to show compassion and kindness to all animals. It is also a time to celebrate the work of animal shelters, rescues, and other organizations that are dedicated to helping animals in need. Whether you are a cat person, dog person or, in my case, a tortoise person, animals have unconditional acceptance that bring out the best in us.

The National Institute of Health has documented that dogs can help with focus for children with ADHD. Pet ownership can also reduce levels of cortisol (a stress related hormone) while increasing our levels of serotonin and dopamine. Pets look after our health by accompanying us on walks or slowing us down when they need a cuddle.  They always love to see you no matter what kind of day you had.
